Directors of Nepali movie

Movie directors can either make or break a movie with their creation. They initiate the project, direct the actors/actresses to act accordingly and try to maintain the flow of a movie. Though it is the actors and actresses who enjoy a celebrity status in society, it is the directors that are pivotal to any film. It would be wise to mention that Nepali movie industry has been blessed with numerous talented directors who have made a niche for themselves. Some have been financially successful while some have garnered more critical acclaim. Without such directors, it would have been and still would be hard to convince people to watch Nepali movies, rather than Hindi and American ones.
In terms of the number they have made, and their success in any form, I have come up with top ten directors of the industry.

  • The number one director, who automatically comes to my mind, is the veteran Tulsi Ghimire. He has made around thirty something in his career, and always makes films that are meaningful like Dakshina, Chino, Kusume Rumal, Balidan, Darpan Chaaya, Desh, and so on.
  • Next on the list is director, Sambhu Pradhan, who with one movie has carved a name for himself and the evergreen cinema happens to be none other than the very beautiful, Samjhana.
  • One other veteran director and actor comes to my mind to be enlisted, and that is Neer Shah. With films such as Basudev and Basnati to his name, he has proven himself an incredible director.
  • Similarly, next on the list is Prakash Thapa, who directed Man Ko Bandh, Jeevan Rekha, Sindur, Santaan, and Naata Ragatko.
  • It would be a miss, if Yadav Kharel is not mentioned on the list. He has made Bhanu Bhakta, Prem Pinda, Cheli Beti, among others. His works are usually about one or the other, eminent social issues.
  • Similarly, Yub Raj Lama is not to be forgotten; he has contributed to the industry through films like Desh Pardes, Deurali, Devdut, Khandan, and others.
  • Likewise, moving into the current situation there is Narayan Puri, who has made Sauta, Mayadevi, Shankar, and Aafno Ghar Aafno Manche.
  • Similarly, another director in the top ten lists is Ashok Sharma with Allare, Mr. RamKrishne and Mitini, which gained popular vote.
  • The other director in the list is one of the current favorites, Shiva Regmi. He has made Aafno Manche, Ye Mero Hajur, Upahar, Hami Teen Bhai and Kahan Bhetiyela. His films are also of entertainment value, but he always makes a point of including social issues in them.
  • Finally, the last director on the list is a new director, Simosh Sunuwar, who has made two movies till date, Mission Paisa and First love.
