While the film Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi shattered records by earning over 46 crore at the Nepali box office, this candid remark from producer Binod Pauel has raised eyebrows across the film fraternity. The collection numbers, though widely reported and celebrated, are now under scrutiny—with many asking: how much of the income is real, and how much is strategy?

This revelation has sparked conversations about transparency, marketing ethics, and the evolving dynamics of box office success in Nepali cinema.

The Nepali film industry experienced a remarkable resurgence in the year 2081 (Bikram Sambat), with several films achieving unprecedented box office success and captivating audiences nationwide.​

Record-Breaking Films

Leading the charge was Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi, a poignant family drama directed by Saroj Poudel. The film explores the struggles of Purna Bahadur, a father striving to provide a better future for his son through education, despite being abandoned by his wife. This heartfelt narrative resonated deeply with viewers, propelling the film to a record-breaking NPR 468 million in domestic earnings.

Another standout was 12 Gaun, an action-packed film directed by Biraj Bhatt.
