Nepal has officially submitted “Halkara” as its entry for the 96th edition of the Academy Awards, more widely recognized as the Oscars, scheduled for March 10, 2024. The decision was made by Nepal’s International Film Selection Committee, chaired by Raju KC. This film, directed by Bikram Sapkota, has already earned several international accolades, making it a strong contender in the international feature category.
The selection process for “Halkara” was based on a meticulous evaluation of technical aspects, storyline, presentation, and character development. This thoughtfully chosen film provides viewers with a unique perspective on Nepal’s current foreign employment landscape, as seen through the eyes of a postman.
The selection committee had invited submissions for this prestigious nomination, and by the deadline, they had received a total of five films for consideration, including “Halkara,” “Dakini,” “Bulaki,” “Bagan,” and “Neerphool.” After thorough deliberation, “Halkara” emerged as the standout choice to represent Nepal on the global stage at the Academy Awards in 2024.
