One of the most essential aspects of film making is to know what the viewers want in the movie. If a film maker discredits the needs and the wants of the viewers, and concentrates on his/her own will then the end product will hand in the middle. Even the most credited film directors therefore do not go against their viewers to portray their creativity. The mass audience can be forgotten but the film maker should have a clear understanding on which is the targeted audience. Without an audience a film is like poetry never read and appreciated.
Related to this, the other important feature of film making is to draw the mass or the targeted audience to the movie halls to watch the film. It is beneficial to have a great cast of actors working for you and also the best technical team with you. For Nepali movies it is necessary to release the music of the film before the film is released.
It is equally a necessity to create a trailer that makes the spectators want to watch the movie. A trailer is made by putting in a few scenes, back ground music and songs, if possible, from a movie, as a means of promoting the film.
It is a difficult task to choose scenes that does not give away much about the whole film, but still excites the audience, which I have found to be the problem in Nepali movie trailers. Most of the trailers for Nepali movies are similar; they do not have a new theme or aspect that can draw an audience. There is always complaining that all Nepali movies are the same and you cannot blame the people complaining because the trailers have nothing new to offer, as well.
Some of the movies, like Sano Sansar (A small world), Mero Euta Saathi Cha (I have a friend), First love, of recent times had presentable trailers, which excited the youngsters to see the movie. It is felt that there is a lack of creative and new talent in the movie industry, regarding the creation of movie trailers. This may sound like a small deal, but unless you can promote your movie by convincing the audience that your movie needs to be seen, the movie cannot fare well. As a Nepali movie lover, who has not had a chance to watch a decent Nepali movie for years, I wish that the film producers are serious about creating well made trailers, to attract people from all backgrounds.
