When we were just thinking that Kollywood is wearing out because of boredom, our very famous actor gave us something spicy enough to keep us gossiping for months. It seems like age is not a limit for the very handsome and controversial Bhuwan KC. Not long after his second divorce to his wife(ex-wife) Sushmita Lama, he was already seen holding hands with another woman identified as Mrs. Sharmila Dangol.

The news made rounds when he attended a party with this beautiful lady and started introducing her as his ‘girlfriend’. However, this show-off didnt pay him very well, when a few weeks later, he got beaten by the husband of his newly found girlfriend. Rumours said that Bhuwan KC and Mrs. Sharmila Dangol were on their way to some place with some business related work, when they were stopped by Sharmila’s husband at Koteshwor, who was on a bike. It has been heard that Bhuwan KC was beaten down ruthlessly by her husband with a helmet, untill he ran off on foot for safety. Sharmila was also the victim of her husband’s rage, till the police took them in custody and released them after a few hours of questioning.

However, Bhuwan KC has denied any involvement of physical forces. Of course, he has his side of the story too. If his denial is true, well good for him, but if what has come to being heard is what really happened, then well, heroes do get some action in real life too, whether it is giving or receiving. Sharmila Dangol’s marriage is also in the verge of it’s end, with divorce settlements being worked out with her husband. When asked about any wedding bells in the near future, Bhuwan KC answered negative. As for his relation with the new lady in his life, he claims her to be only his friend that he was trying to help promote for her boutique business. Well, ‘promotion’ he did for sure.

Film industry is called the world of dreams by many; it is also the dream of many. Nonetheless it is not easy to establish oneself in the industry despite good performance many actors are never seen on the screen again. There are others who despite average performance stick around and become big stars. It is an unpredictable world the world of films and the luck of the actors are equally unpredictable.

There are several Nepali movies by Rekha Thapa which have been a great hit including Himmat, Kismat and Hifajat. Since she came into the film scene in 2000; she has taken the film industry by storm. Not only is she a film actress but she is also a film producer. It is known from a source that she participated in the Miss Nepal contest of 1998 but did not win any title. Two years later she joined the film industry and she is now the queen of Nepali film industry. She has acted in so many movies in these ten years that it is hard to list down all the films by her. She has also produced a number of films along with her film producer husband Chabi Ojha. For her continuous contribution to the Nepali film industry and for her performance in Himmat she won the Best Actress award in the National Film Awards of 2063 B.S.
Rekha Thapa is also considered a ‘bold’ actress for her dress sense and dancing in the movies. Apart from that she calls herself a responsible Nepali citizen who cares about politics and society. After reading a few of her interviews you can also tell that she is an intelligent actress who knows what she is doing and wants to do in the future.

Old is gold that is what they say it seems true for everything and all the times? This is very true in relation to movies. Where the movies that are so dramatic beautifully shot and artistically made? Today’s movies are about glamour, fashion, action, drama and if not anything then romantic comedies. No longer are the actors distinguished and melodramatic; they are all very real to life so that the audiences do not have to suspend their disbelief. This is not true of most of the Nepali movie made today; they still give the aura of being made in the 1990s. However, the 1990s movies belong to that generation and not to the 2000s. It is sad that the movies have not been able, to move beyond the family drama and love stories with basically the same plotline. I do not want to discredit some of the movies which have been made differently leaving a different taste in the mouth.
I would have to mention that the old Nepali movies are gold for the most part. Even though they were made at a time when films could not be in a digital format needed to be taken to Mumbai for finishing and were made in a low budget; people still remember Maitighar and Paral ko Aago of the pre-color era. There are many people who want to watch Jeevan Rekha and Sindur again and again. Movies like Samjhana and Kusume Rumal have a cult following among Nepali movie lovers. Some of my own favorites include Basudev, Prem Pinda, Behuli and Balidan among others. Why it is that Nepali movie enthusiasts remember the time when these movies were made? I do not have clear answers to this question; however I know that I will watch Basudev and Balidan a hundred times without feeling bored. It may be the story that makes these films stand out and be remembered today. It may also be the background scores and the play back singing that excites movie lovers to love old Nepali movies. For me it is also the actors that make a difference in my movie choice; the actors in the old Nepali movies are incredible in their roles and are so believable.
