This blend of beauty and knowledge is a rare blend for Nepali movie which sets her apart from her co-actors and contenders.

Since her first movie ‘Apsara’ has been released, there has been no turning back for this gorgeous Nepali actress. She has only strived forward with every movie of hers and every role she has played. Some of her recognized movies are Aama, Unko Samjhana, Bhagya Bidhata, Prem Yuddha, Yuddha, Ashirwad, Aama ko Ashirwad, Bhagya le Jurayo, Bhannai Sakina, Binti Patra, Chattan, Chor Sipahi, Don, Maya Namara, Maryadha, Majhi Dai, Papi Manche, Raghu Veer, Saput etc. She has acted in more than one dozen movies, alongside and opposite almost every Kollywood actor.

As rumour always makes it’s way in the Nepali Film Industry, Sanchita Luitel isnt free of it either. Recently, she was rumoured to have married one of the most popular and successful actor of this generation, Nikhil Upreti. This came as a shock to the entire film industry as well as Nepali movie audience, because Nikhil Upreti is already a married man. Sanchita Luitel was allegedly linked up with Upreti, where both of them were believed to have gone to India together and have got married. They had left for India putting all the movies they were working on at a halt. One of the directors, Madan Ghimire who was working with Upreti had to shift the dunning to India because Nikhil was reluctant to come back to Nepal.

However, Upreti’s legal wife, Mrs. Kopila Upreti showed her full faith her husband and said the talks were all rumours. Whether it is all a publicity stunt, or the real truth, no body has made any claims whatsoever. What happens in Nepali Movie Industry never stays shut, but regardless all the rumours, we love Sanchita for her work and dedication towards the Industry.

The actress, who was the actress in the 1980s and the early 1990s, Tripti Nadakar is back to the Nepali film industry, after she left for India to take care of her family in the mid 1990s. It is the love of the Nepali viewers that has pulled her back to the industry, as she loves to say. The love of the audience is well evident, in the fact that she has been well received, after coming back to Nepali movies in the mid 2000s.
She started her Nepali film career with Samjhana, opposite Bhuwan K.C. in 1983. She paired with him in two other movies, Kusume Rumal and Saino. It is not a new thing to talk about their chemistry. Right from the first movie, the other two movies were received well by the audience, because of the pairs’ one screen romance and presence. In Samjhana, she had to play a double, as the lover/wife and the daughter of Bhuwan K.C.; Tripti has done justice to both the roles in the movie. In spite of her being an Indian, she won the hearts of her Nepali audience by portraying herself, as a young Nepali village belle in Samjhana.
Similarly, in Kusume Rumal, she could not be together with Bhuwan K.C., as his role required him to be a lone lover. The song, “Kusume Rumal…” from the movie does portray their unsaid and immaterialized love in this movie. Her next movie, Saino was also well received, and so was her movie with Shrawan Ghimire, Lahure. In the movie she plays a single unmarried mother of a Lahure(soldier), as her lover dies before being able to marry her. From a young, innocent girl to a woman of forty years old, Tripti has done justice to the roles. This movie, along with Koseli showcased her versatility as an actor to the Nepali audience. It is also good to mention that most of her films were made by Tulsi Ghimire, except for Samjhana.
After doing Koseli in 1992, she went back to India to settle down; after taking care of her family for years, she was back in Nepali film with Aamko Kakh in 2004. She has done a few movies after that, and she even won the award of the best supporting actor female for Aamako Kakh, in the National Film awards 2067. An interesting thing about Tripti is that she was paired with Bhuwn K.C. in her earlier movies, and nowadays she is being paired with another Superstar actor, Rajesh Hamal. She is no longer the lead actress of the Nepali movies, as many young actresses have arrived in the scene, but the Nepali audience is glad that she has returned to her second home.

She is one of the actresses, who took the movie industry by surprise with her acting, grace and dance skills. Born in Darjeeling, India, Niruta Singh was introduced to the world of Nepali movies by the veteran director, editor, lyricist, screen writer and cameraman, Tulsi Ghimire. Ghimire, who himself is from Kalimpong, India has made huge contribution to make Nepali movies popular among people, who were used to watching Hindi movies.
Niruta debuted in Ghimire’s Dakshina(1993), in which she was paired with Bhuwan K.C. She is one other actress, who was paired opposite Bhuwan K.C. in her first film, the other two actresses paired opposite him, in their first film are: Karishma Manandhar and Tripti Nadakar. The song of the movie Dakshina, “Sapana bhayi aankhama aaune ko hola…,” made her a popular face to remember. After her successful debut, she moved on to become, one of the most popular actresses in the history of Nepali movies. Many movies in the mid 1990, late 90s and early 200s were made with Niruta, as the leading lady.
Some of her movies that were released in the 1990s are: Afanta,Rahar, Nata Ragatko and Thuldai. All these three movies fared well in the box office, which increased her popularity, as an actress who could make a film sell well. Of these three movies, she played the role of a widowed woman in Thuldai, in which the title role was played by Shiva Shrestha. Likewise, in Afanta, she played the role of a rape victim, and was praised for her incredible acting. Moving into the 2000s, her luck was even stronger; she played in movies, like Aago, Afno Ghar Afno Manche, Siundo Ko Sindoor, Darpan Chaya, Dui Kinara, Lahana, and others. Among these movies, Aago was banned by the censor board, for being a pro-Maoist movie.
Similarly, in regards to other movies, Darpan Chaya, became the biggest hit of the year 2001. The movie was directed by Tulsi Ghimire, and actor duo, Dilip Rayamajhi and Uttam Pradhan were paired opposite Niruta. The movie has a cult following till date; many people remember its songs, the friendship between the two actors and the love triangle. It is probably the most loved of Niruta’s films, in which her chemistry with Dilip Rayamajhi was much talked about. Some of her other pairs that is appreciated is Rajesh Hamal, Sri Krishna Shrestha and Bhuwan K.C. She has been known as the most popular film actress of Nepali films; she was the reigning queen of Nepali movies for more than fifteen years of her career. I am talking about no one else, but Karishma Manandhar, formerly Karishma K.C. She started her film career with Santaan (1985), opposite Bhuwan K.C., when she was just fourteen years old. At that tender age, with her acting, dance and physical beauty she won over the viewers’ heart. She went on to become a familiar name in Nepali movies, and there was a time, when hardly any movies were made without her.

It had been quite sometime that she had been away from Nepali movies, when she came back on the scene with Bashma Chaina Yo Mann. The reason for her disappearance from, first, the Nepali movies and then Nepal, is thought to be the failure of her much anticipated movie, Babu Saheb. The movie was not only Karishma’s acting venture, but also one of her first movies as a producer. This movie was released in 2002, and could not perform well in the market; despite Karishma’s denial that the movie was the only reason for her moving away to the USA, many film critics and people close to her, bank on the very reason.
It is a cause of much joy for the movie lovers and her fans that she is once again back in Nepal, and has been doing some movies lately. She is also seen in many premiere shows of movies, and recently inaugurated the fashion boutique of Former Miss Nepal, Usha Khadgi. She was also photographed in a stunning polka dot, black gown in the Nepal Fashion Week, here in the Capital.
Remembering the days, when she was the leading lady of Nepali movies, it is important to talk about her association with Rajesh Hamal; the two have worked together as a pair in movies, such as Allare, Saathi, Ek Number ko Pakhe, Paapi Manche, among other movies. They were awarded the best on- screen couple of the decade, in around 2057 B.S. They are also considered, the follow up on screen couple to Bhuwan K.C. and Tripti Naadkar. Likewsie, talking about her movie career, some of her best movies are: Mayalu, Truck Driver, Jindagani, Saathi, Allare, Ek Number kopPakhe, Paapi Manche, and so on. She is one of those actresses, who hold her own on screen; she is not just an actress who supports the hero, but creates a role for herself.
She is also the evergreen actress of Nepali cinema; she is nearly forty years old, but she can turn heads, wherever she goes. Along with her acting skills, she is well known for her eternal beauty.

Most people know Namrata Shrestha as a model; she started her career in the glamour field, by posing as a ramp and video model. She steeped into modeling in 1997, and eleven years later she was featured in a Nepali movie, Sano Sansar directed by Alok Nembang. It is not a coincidence that Nembang had worked with Namrata, in some music videos, before his decision to cast her in his directorial debut. Some of her popular music videos are: “Aakha Ma Lukauki …,” “Ko Hola …,” “Timilai Herne…,” “Timro Nam Timi Bina …,” and “Timilay Diyeko ….” She did show her acting talent in the music videos, which is also the reason, why she could bag a film role for herself.
Namrata Shrestha is also famous for her good looks, which makes her stand out in front of the camera. Her smile is beautiful, and her face lights up with the camera, which is a plus point for an actress. Because of her asset, she has also done a few video advertisements, such as the promotion of DiStar TV, Crunch Aloos snacks and nd’s. Namrata is one of those actresses who have found their way into the film industry, through modeling. Some of the other model turned actresses are: Richa Sharma, Nisha Poudel, Usha Rajak in Nepal, and more famously Bipasa Basu, Deepika Padukone and Aishwarya Rai in the Hindi film industry.
Acting is not a cup of tea for everyone, but Namrata has proven herself to be a decent actress. Her first movie did well in the Nepali film market; her other co-stars in the movie were Karma, Binay Shrestha and Jiwan Luintel. Her acting as a rich and an ambitious girl was praised in the movie, and her chemistry with Karma was remarkable. Her next venture was the 2009 film, Mero Euta Saathi Cha. This film was directed by Sudarshan Thapa as his directorial debut. Namrata was paired with Aryan Sigdel in this movie, and Namrata’s acting was once again appreciated. In this film, she acted as the small town girl in love with a rich boy.
Many songs from both of Namrata’s movies gained huge popularity. Despite being popular with her two films, she has been out of the limelight for sometime. Her new ventures are yet to be released, and it is not known whether she is working in other movies. One of the reasons, of her disappearing for the scene might be the scandal that she had to face in 2009. Nonetheless, her co-actors and directors have shown their support to get her back to the silver screen. The audience wants to see her back on the screen, as well, because of her acting skills and her beauty.

Rekha Thapa is known as one of the hottest actresses on Nepali screen. She had no connection to the film industry or so, yet she has made a mark for herself in this more or less selfish industry. What she has is what she has earned. Born on Bhadra 5th, 2040, this Aries is a 5ft 3 inches tall. She was born in Morang, Nepal. Her first movie was “Hero” which was released in 2057. She has been a part of the Nepali Film fraternity for just a decade now and she has more than 90 films in her name.
Rekha Thapa instantly became a people’s favourite with her first movie. Call her bold or sexy, she has got it all. Her next few releases would make her even more popular. She is just 9 years old and what she has achieved is worth the praise she is already collecting. Many actresses move out of this industry after a few years of work. It takes a whole lot of commitment and passion to survive here, and Rekha Thapa has proved herself to be a survivor.

She recently got married to the well known producer Chhabi Ojha. However, like the queen of controversy that she always is, she was caught on a program saying that she has never married to anyone. Any news whether good or bad, nice or ugly, the ones that is related to Rekha Thapa is always keeping her in the headlines. On a better note, those news always works for her good. Whether it is getting famous, promoting her movie or any other reasons, Rekha Thapa knows all the tricks of this game. No wonder she is here, and like her or not, she is here to stay for a long time.

Whether it is by virtue, or by definition, actresses do not have a screen life, as long as their male counterparts. It is a sad view, and also a confirmation for the most part; most actresses are rarely seen on screen after marriage. When saying this, it is not to say that all actresses have the same plight. Jharana Thapa, Arunima Lamsal and Rekha Thapa, among others have defied odds, and are seen in movies all the time. All three have maintained their physique, and Jharana even has a child. They are considered good actress and dancers, who are tough competition for other unmarried actresses in the film industry.

Among the three actresses, Rekha Thapa is the most sought after actress of her generation. After her movie debut in the movie Hero, alongside Rajesh Hamal, in which she performed the song, “Timro mann ta chakku churi, yo mann sarangi….” This song was one of the biggest hits of that year.
It has been ten years since her first step in the movies, and she has not had to struggle to make her presence felt in Nepali movies. One of the reasons for that may be that she is married to the film producer, Chabi Ojha. Nonetheless, her own talent and personality cannot be discredited, as the number of films that she has worked in has reached, nearly a hundred.

Rekha Thapa is unique in the sense that she is not only an actor, but also a role model for many married and unmarried young women. Her courage and bravery, regarding the ability to work and do glamorous roles, without caring about the negative comments from the society is commendable. In fact, she is one of the very few actresses, who is not afraid to do “bold” roles, but still knows her boundaries. Talking about glamorous roles, she has done numerous item numbers for films, among which “Oye oye current laagcha malai choye…” became a big hit.

After just being here for a few years now, she has already started to produce films. Not every other actor has such guts and most importantly the money needed to take such a huge step. Rekha Thapa has her own production house and she is ruling it. She is producing a lot of movies and for good reasons or bad, they seem to be doing really good at the box office. Looks like Rekha Thapa is the queen of the beehive for now. She is controversies favourite child and she is the queen of many men’s heart.

The biggest of her films have been a milestone for her successful career graph. Movies of her like Himmat, dobaato, dui pal, gorkhaali, karmayoddha, kismet, mitini, priyatama were a box office hit. Her recent movie Hifajat was one of the biggest releases in the history of Nepali cinema. It released successfully on the first day in 42 theatres around the country, but it could not last long. This was not because of bad reviews or the dissatisfaction of the audience but because of some objections from a Hindu religious group. The objection was regarding her dress which was made up of the holy yellow colour with prints that read “Hare Ram, Hare Krishna”. It is still surrounded by controversies and objections. Perhaps one of the biggest hits of her career will come to doom before it begins. But we still have to see of what the future has held for this movie.

She also won the best female actor award, in the 2067 National Film Awards for her performance in Himmat (2063). Despite being successful professionally, she has not been out of controversies. Her open minded attitude has led her to difficult situations, including not getting along with some of her co-actors. She has also been criticized for over exposure in films, and has not gained praise for her acting skills. Nonetheless, with her dedication and attractive personality, she has been able to please most of her fans, and surely will continue to do so.

The recent movies of her also includes Kasley Choryo Mero Mann which she has produced by herself. There are a lot of other movies that was produced under her production house which were a massive hit out of the valley as well as in the valley.
Rekha Thapa is accused of being arrogant and not having a good rapport with her co stars. Reports of her cat fights are a regular in the film industry but then again she has the attitude not to talk about it. She is proud of what she is- a glam girl and flaunts it with pride. For this reason and more she is one of the most successful actresses the Nepali Film Industry has ever seen. Her success and demand can be judged on the basis of the amount she is offered for a movie. She is the highest paid actress in Nepal which says it all about how famous she is, regardless people who talk about her talent.

It is true that she has always been portrayed as a Glamour figure and that she is in much new because of this quality of hers. But we tend to forget in all these controversies and drama that she is really talented and is a committed actor. She has done everything from bungee jumping to martial arts in her movies which prove her loyalty towards her work. She says that if not an actress, she would have been an airhostess. Well, we are happy that she isn’t an airhostess. It is an honour to have at least one truly dedicated female actor in Nepal.
