Swor is the latest movie on the block. From a promising new diretor Prasanna Poudyal, this movie has been rated by many reviewers as a must see. After decades of same old stories and actors, this movie can definitely compete as a fresh start for the next generation of Nepali Cinema. It is an absolute breathe of fresh air, with young and new faces to see.
The screenplay is written by Achyut Adhikari and for a technically new movie director, Prasanna has done a very good job. The star cast includes a lot of faces that we are familiar with. Some have showcased their talents in music videos, others are well-known models. Some of them have worked in the movies before but all in all, they are the newbies to the world of celluloid.
The star cast of includes Raj Ballav Koirala, Keki Adhikari, Sraj Garach, Benisha Hamal, Reema Bishwokarma, Amit Pokharel, Joyes Pandey and more. Although the movie was initially declared as a movie that Nepali movie industry has never seen, it eventually comes out to be nothing but total bluff, well not-total bluff. It is definitely a wonderful movie but it has no surprise package for the audience.
The movie starts with Raj Ballav, Sraj Garach, Amit Pokhrel, Joes Pandey, Reema Bishwokarma and Benisha Hamal as aspring musicians who work out to fulfill their dream of taking their band professional. But then there is a filmy twist as every other movie. The movie is great in a sense that the director has worked hard to make it one. A huge credit goes to the actors, who have brought the characters to life. The music is amazing, thanks to Sugam Pokharel and Satya-Swaroop Acharya. The composition is fantastic and sticks to you when you get out of the theatre.
What brings down this potential movie is its story. The writer of the movie has failed to provide ample information about the character’s background. Most of all, there are times, when the audience are in confusion about what the event ended up to. Seriously, the plot isnt as good as could had been. The writer seems to have missed out critical elements which could have helped better the story. Then again it seems like the evergreen cliches of the movie industry wont ever get out of our lives. There are so many moments where we know what is going to happen next. The essence of a good cinema lies in the surprise; whether failure or success of the protagonist, but the movie seems to have none. We instantly know what the events are going to add up to. And that is a big let-down.
But the movie isnt a total waste either. The performance of the artists and the hardwork of the director shows in the movie. The performance of the actors deserve a hats-off and so does the director. There are beautiful moments in the film that does brings a smile on your face and makes up for those not-so-great scenes. Overall, the movie is good. It is worth a watch. As many have claimed, it can prove to be the alpha of the next gen Nepali movie.
