After a long wait there is finally a movie in the Nepali Movie industry that isnt just another cliched melodrama. With the release date of “Ek Din Ek Raat” getting closer, it had taken many mass as well as the star cast and the crew of the movie with as much nervousness and anxiety. The movie had a different theme and story which was the main curiosity as well as scary factor. Talking about scary, Ek Din Ek Raat is a thriller movie, something that we viewers dont get to see every other day or even in years from Nepali Cinema.
Directed by Dev Kumar Shrestha, this movie is a suspense thriller. Although it isnt one of the finest ones you have ever seen, coming from a Nepali filmmaker, the movie absolutely deserves a mention. The star cast include Vinay Shrestha, Diya Maskey, Jasper Neupane, Karma Shakya, Menuka Pradhan, Prabesh Giri, BS Rana and Anup Baral, the award winning actor for “Dasdhunga”.
The story takes shape when Vinay wants to write an article on “unseen power” followed by some mysterious accidents, but his boss (BS Rana)refuses to publish it without any real evidence. He is provided with 24 hours to prove his theory and thus happens ek din ek raat. He joins forces with his friends; Diya Maskey, Jasper, Karma, Menuka, Prabesh and Pralaya, to find the unseen power. The story leads to some unbearable costs paid by Vinay. The story is very interesting and fulfills the promise of a thriller in the first half, but as the second half begins the essence of the movie is lost on the way.
The movie is about unseen power and the tension is obvious, but the filmmaker or say the writer has failed to reveil the reason behind all the stress that the characters go through. The lack of reasoning and justification is what brings the story down. Yet even with few loopholes and lack of proper plot, the movie is worth a watch. The performance of the actors deserves a round of applause. Vinay shows his growth as an actor since Sano Sansar and so does Karma. Karma’s acting skills look polished and more refined. The performances of the rest of the star cast are also remarkable.
The dialogues, humor scenes and cinematography are well taken care of. The soundtracks are the film-stealer. Tsujil Karmacharya has done a fabulous job with the background music. Manaraj Nakarmi and Firoj Bajracharya also deserve a special mention for this. Eventhough, the audience might feel lost in a few moments of the movie, not knowing what led to what, the movie isnt that bad overall. As a matter of fact, with the tension built up by the sounds and the thrill, one might not even have the time to wonder about the plot. All in all it is enjoyable and worth every penny you pay for the ticket. Most of all, it is worth a watch for all the efforts that have been kept into it and above all, it is nothing like what comes around every week from our Nepali movie makers.
